Manchester United crash out of UCL to Sevilla in Old Trafford Shambolic performance

Manchester United crashed out of UEFA Champions’ league round of 16 to Sevilla . Both teams played out goaless draw in Spain three weeks ago . The Red Devils performance over two legs was shambolic and embarrassing which saw them deservedly eliminated from the competition – by a Sevilla side who were scarcely better. Every other side in the last eight will want to draw them, and rightly so.

United started slowly, just as they did in the reverse fixture sitting off limited opposition for reasons appreciated solely by Jose Mourinho. In midfield, Marouane Fellaini made his first start in three months with Paul Pogba starting from the bench, while the match winner against Liverpool Marcus Rashford, was inexplicably moved from left to right wing to suit the horrifically out of form Alexis Sanchez.

As such, United mustered one chance in the 42nd minute, Fellaini shooting too close to Sergio Rico, while Sevilla failed to muster even that. Mourinho’s team played like there was nothing at stake for major part of the game

The game opened up a little in the second half, Sevilla having the better of the play as United toiled, and on 73 minutes, replaced Luis Muriel with Wissam Ben Yedder. It took him a minute to effectively settle the tie, smacking Ever Banega’s’s pass past United Goalkeeper, David De Gea and four minutes later scored again, heading home following a corner as United panicked.

Romelo Lukaku pull one back for United in the 84th minute. The Belgian tried his best with limited service, hooking home after a corner, but in the time that remained, Sevilla came closer to extending their lead than United did to pulling it back.
