I don’t need to justify this move’: Payet shows no remorse over ditching West Ham as it emerges he had to pay back £500,000

After weeks of protracted negotiations, Payet returned to Marseille on Sunday night in a £25m deal. It has emerged that West Ham made Payet pay back his £500,000 salary for January before they acquiesced to the move. The Hammers were prepared to pull the plug on the deal unless Payet returned the money he was paid while refusing to play for the club.
